SAD NEWS! Man Utd mourn as former defender dies

Manchester United have been thrown into mourning as their former defender and club legend, Tony Dunne dies at the age of 78.

Dunne who played as a left fullback during his illustrious career was part of the squad that defeated Benfica 4-1 at Wembley in 1968 as United claim their first-ever European Cup.

The Irishman joined Red Devils at the age of 18 in 1960, played 535 first-team matches for the club, putting him eighth on their all-time appearance list.

Manchester United released an official statement on their Twitter page to mourn the death of their club legend.

"One of our greatest-ever full-backs. An integral part of the 1968 European Cup-winning side," the club stated on their Twitter page.

"A player who made 535 appearances in the red shirt of Manchester United.

"Our heartfelt condolences go to the loved ones of Tony Dunne. May he rest in peace."
