6 Famous Nigerian Musicians From Osun State

#1. Davido

David Adedeji Adeleke (born November 21, 1992), who is better known as Davido , is an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. Davido was born in Atlanta , US, and raised in Lagos ; he made his music debut as a member of the music group KB International. He studied business administration at Oakwood University before dropping out to make beats and record vocal references.

Davido rose to fame after releasing " Dami Duro ", the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo (2012), from which six additional singles—"Back When", "Ekuro", "Overseas", "All of You", "Gbon Gbon", and "Feel Alright"—were taken.

In 2012, Davido won the Next Rated award at The Headies . Between 2013 and 2015, he released the hit singles " Gobe ", "One of a Kind", "Skelewu ", " Aye", "Tchelete (Goodlife)", "Naughty", "Owo Ni Koko", "The Sound" and "The Money".

This stylish songwriter, artiste, and co-owner of record label HKN Music often tops numerous charts across Nigeria is from Osun state.

#2. Ojo Ade

Ojo Ade (born October 10, 1959) is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter and evangelist.He was born on October 10, 1959 at Ikeji Ile , a city in Osun State southwestern Nigeria . He was educated at St. Judges Anglican Church at Ikeji Ile before he left to Lagos State southwestern Nigeria for a vocational program in Electronics.

In 1987, he proceeded to Calvary International Bible College under the tutelage of Rev. Anjorin, Ibadan based pastor and preacher.

He began his music career in 1977 when he Joined a church choir but established his personal musical group in 1979. In 1981, two years after he established his musical group, he released his debut album titled Jesun To Funmi and later released Satani Ko Sinmi. He is one of the gospel singers who had made a significant contributions to gospel music in Nigeria.

#3. Mayokun

Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel (born March 23, 1994), known professionally as Mayorkun , is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and pianist. He released a cover of Davido's "The Money" single and was discovered by the singer on Twitter. Mayorkun signed with Davido's record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2016; his debut single "Eleko" was released under the label. Mayorkun released his debut studio album The Mayor of Lagos in November 2018.

Mayorkun was born on March 23, 1994 in Osun State. He is the first child of three, born into a family of entertainers. His mother is a Nollywood actress and his father, an artist and movie producer. Mayorkun was part of the choir at a very young age where he, according to him, "learnt the rudiments of music". He has a degree in accounting from the University of Lagos , and was in a banking job before he was discovered in 2016.

Mayorkun decided to leave his bank job to search for another due to bad pay, when his cover video was spotted by Davido in February 2016. Davido followed him on twitter and Instagram, after which Davido asked him if he can do more than play the keyboard. He got a call from Davido the same day he wrote his resignation letter and sent Davido some of the songs he already recorded. Davido decided to sign him to Davido Music Worldwide. Mayorkun released his first single under the label called "Eleko" in 2016. The video of the song gathered a million views in the first 10 days. To his name, Mayorkun has several singles including Yawa, Sade, Che Che, and Mama. In October 2018, he released singles "Posh" and "Fantasy" featuring Olu Maintain in anticipation of his first studio album titled "The Mayor of Lagos". The Mayor of Lagos was released on the 16th of November 2018. On December 1, 2018, it appeared on the Billboard World Albums chart, peaking at number 15.

Babatunde Olusegun Adewale (born June 14, 1975), popularly known by his stage name Modenine , is an English-born Nigerian rapper. In 2014, he released a song titled "Super Human" with Jamaican-American rapper Canibus.

Mode9 was born in London on June 14, 1975. He is the third child of his parents who are from Osun State . He has credited Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five for inspiring his love for Hip Hop.

In 2004, Mode9 released his debut project, Malcolm IX. His next album, Pentium IX was released in 2006. In 2007, he released another album called É Pluribus Unum. Modenine has eight studio albums. He released in 2018, a new album titled Hence4th produced by Black Intelligence. In 2019, he released an album titled The Monument.

#5. Fatai Rolling Dollar

Prince Olayiwola Fatai Olagunju , known better as Fatai Rolling Dollar (22 July 1927 – 12 June 2013), was a Nigerian musician, described by the BBC as a "nationally celebrated performer." He died on 12 June 2013, at the age of 86, and was praised by past Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.

He started his musical career in 1953 and had mentored a number of musicians including Ebenezer Obey and the late Orlando Owoh . He was known for his dexterity at playing the guitar, Rolling Dollar's last major hit was " Won Kere Si Number Wa".

In 1957, he formed an eight-piece band called Fatai Rolling Dollar and his African Rhythm Band, and they recorded numerous seven-inch singles for Phillips West Africa Records.

He died peacefully in his sleep. He was buried in Ikorodu, Lagos. He was the oldest surviving music artist in Nigeria.

#6. B-Red

Adebayo Adeleke (born July 23), better known by his stage name B-Red , is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was featured on two tracks from Davido's debut studio album, Omo Baba Olowo (2012).

Primarily known as Davido's cousin and hypeman, his career as a solo act started in 2013 with the release of the single "Insane Girl"; the song features vocals from Davido and was produced by Shizzi. In 2016, he released his debut EP All the Way Up .In the five years he has been with HKN, B-Red has failed to put out an album, the sole project he released was an extended play EP in mid-2016. Entitled ‘All The Way Up’, the EP contained eight songs, including six bonus tracks, which were mostly pre-released singles.

Between 2013 and 2015, he has however released several singles which enjoyed massive airplay including "Uju" and "Cucumber" featuring Akon . In April 2019 The HKN Singer and songwriter, B-Red Dropped Two songs titled “E Better” featuring Mavin records boss, Don Jazzy. And “Achie” featuring award-winning artiste, Davido. He is from Osun State.
